Be part of an inspiring, celebratory Armed Forces Day event in the heart of London

Join SSAFA for the 13 Bridges Challenge 2026, a spectacular walk across London’s historic bridges - beginning at Tower Bridge and finishing this year in the beautiful surroundings of Battersea Park.

This fully accessible route brings together people of all ages and abilities to honour our Armed Forces community, raise awareness of SSAFA’s work, and celebrate strength, camaraderie, and community spirit.

What's happening?

With over 1000 participants taking part, we need a brilliant team of volunteers to help make the day truly unforgettable.

Who we need

We’re looking for at least 20 enthusiastic volunteers to support this flagship Armed Forces Day event.

We need support between 6am and 6pm - simply tell us your availability when you sign up, and we’ll match you to the most suitable role.

Volunteer Roles

SSAFA event stand support

There are two locations:

  • Start location: Tower Hill
  • Finish location: Battersea Park (new for 2026!)

You'll be:

  • Welcoming and cheering on participants
  • Handing out medals at the finish
  • Chatting with friends, family and supporters
  • Taking photos for social media
  • Helping the events team with set‑up and pack‑down

Cheer points/ water stop support

You'll be:

  • Cheering, motivating and supporting walkers along the 13 Bridges Challenge route
  • Helping create a fun, supportive and uplifting atmosphere
  • Taking photos and capturing those brilliant milestone moments
