What is the SSAFA Mentoring service?
Volunteers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, a SSAFA volunteer mentor supports serving personnel, veterans and their families make a successful transition from service life.
SSAFA has developed a mentoring service, to support all service leavers and their families during their transition to civilian life regardless of the reasons for leaving the military.
The Mentoring service provides holistic, long-term, one-to-one, face-to-face support during transition and for up to two years post discharge to all members of our armed forces. By supporting, guiding and signposting individuals we can ensure a successful transition is achieved. Our volunteer mentors are an integral part of the team supporting the service user into civilian life often helping them to understand and navigate their new environment.
Requirements
A full driving license and access to a car to travel to meetings which can be up to 50 miles or an hour from your home address. Mentors need to be a minimum of 25 years old
Time commitment
Mentors meet their beneficiaries weekly for approximately an hour, with travel and some admin an average of half a day a week is required.
Support
Full training is provided for this role, with some online training and a face to face residential course. You will also supported by a regional mentoring coordinator who will provide case management and supervision for you throughout your time as a mentor.
